Yojana Gharat (Smit Foundation, Mumbai) to Receive Late Smt. Kamaltai Jamkar Darpan Award 2024 Parbhani: The Late Smt. Kamaltai Jamkar Memorial Darpan Award, which is given annually, will be presented to Yojana Gharat, founder of Smit Foundation in Mumbai. Known as the “Mother of the Homeless and Mentally Ill,” she has been announced as the recipient of the Darpan Award 2024. Former Maharashtra State Minister Bharat Bhushan Raosaheb Jamkar has expressed his best wishes and stated that the award is dedicated to women who have excelled in social work in the name of Kamaltai Jamkar. This marks the 22nd year of the award. In the past, the award has been conferred on notable figures such as writer Rekha Baijal, Dr. Vrushali Kinhalkar, Dr. Mabel Arole, Sindhutai Sapkal (Mother of Orphans), Rani Bang, Dr. Hemlata Patil, Dr. Surekha Dalvi, Kunseema M. Hurzuk, Mrs. Vaishali Patil, Mrs. Pratibha Shinde, Prof. Sadhna Jhadbuke, Dr. Mandatai Amte, Mrs. Mayatai Sorte, Mrs. Rehmatbi Karim Beg Mirza, Mrs. Sumansingh Chauhan, Mrs. Mithu Devi, Sulochana Kadu, Mrs. Anuradha Koirala, Dr. Jyotsna Kukde, Mrs. Pinjaribai Ullya Pawara, Padma Shri Rahibai Soma Popere, and Mrs. Sushila Vitthalrao Sable. For the 22nd year, the award will honor Yojana Gharat, often referred to as the “Mother of the Homeless and Mentally Ill.” She is the founder of Smit Foundation, Mumbai, and has rendered invaluable service for the upliftment of the elderly and mentally ill. Raised in Mother Teresa’s orphanage, Yojana Tai has dedicated her life to the care of homeless and mentally ill individuals, as well as empowering women and serving leprosy patients. Since its inception in 2017, Smit Foundation has been actively working to care for the poor, orphans, and mentally ill individuals. Yojana Gharat has committed herself to providing shelter for those in need, considering destitute parents in society as her inspiration. The foundation works tirelessly to bring smiles to the faces of underprivileged orphan children. Smit Foundation organizes various camps for students from India and abroad under Yojana Tai’s disciplined leadership. The organization focuses on tackling the neglect of elderly parents in modern society. They provide essential services such as health care, nutrition, housing, food, hygiene, and recreational activities like Zumba, yoga, devotional singing, and art of living workshops. Hospitals and nursing colleges also collaborate in these initiatives. Acknowledging the impactful work of Smit Foundation, Yojana Tai Gharat will be honored with the Darpan Award. This announcement was made through a press release by the selection committee of the Late Smt.
